As a commitment to their 30Forward pledge, the London Police Service will be hosting their second ‘Fit To Serve: Women In Policing’ event.
The 30Forward pledge is a collaborative effort made by police agencies, researchers, and professional organizers that prioritize representation of women in the police force. The event aims to break down barriers in the police force by connecting interested participants with women who have experience in the field.
Hannah Browne, a second year police foundations student at Fanshawe College said the event is an opportunity to showcase women in the field.
“I think just having it for women will give women an opportunity and see that it’s not just men because now there’s a lot more women in the program and in policing as a whole. So I think it’s just good for women to see and other people to know that it’s not just a male-dominated field.” she said.
Through talks and testimonials from experienced female officers, attendees can expect to learn about the recruitment process, PREP fitness testing, as well as how to jumpstart their policing career.
Browne believes that although the field remains stereotypically male-dominated, she encourages anyone, especially women, to pursue it.
“Definitely do what you want to do. Don’t let specific like stereotypes, like it’s a male-dominated program, scare you into it and do what you want and follow your dreams.”
Fit To Serve: Women In Policing will take place on Wednesday, January 28th at the BMO Centre from 11AM to 3PM.
