Former London Knights defenceman and 2016 Memorial Cup champion Evan Bouchard made NHL history over the weekend.
Bouchard became one of two defencemen to record hat tricks in consecutive games — the first time that feat has been accomplished at the NHL level. He scored the first hat trick of his career Saturday against the Washington Capitals, followed by teammate Mattias Ekholm, who recorded a three-goal game Sunday against the Anaheim Ducks.
Bouchard also reached another milestone in Saturday’s game, joining Bobby Orr as the only defencemen in league history to record six points and eight shots in a single game.
The performance came in Bouchard’s 400th NHL game. He scored three goals and added three assists in a 6–5 overtime win over Washington on Jan. 24, 2026, factoring in all six Edmonton goals. The outing marked career highs in goals and points in a game and made him the first Oilers defenceman to post a six-point night since Paul Coffey on March 14, 1986.
Bouchard and the Oilers return to action Thursday against the San Jose Sharks.
