Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to visit India in early March. The potential trip will likely be a part of a push to deepen trade ties with India and to diversify Canada’s economic partners beyond the United States.
High Commissioner Dinesh Patnaik also said that Carney’s potential trip will include discussions about uranium, energy, minerals, artificial intelligence and quantum computing.
The visit comes as Canada hopes to reset relations with India following tensions under the previous government and to pursue new export markets.
Officials say a 10-year, $2.8 billion uranium deal could be included in the meeting.
Carney has emphasized in the past that it is important to diversify trade with many global shifts and continuous pressure on traditional markets.
India, with its fast-growing economy, is seen as an important partner for Canada.
