The London Fire Department is giving advice for people following a fire Tuesday afternoon.
A fire broke out earlier Tuesday morning at an apartment on 700 King Street.
Deputy Chief Gary Bridge talks about a message that they always give to people.
“As we often remind anybody that’s cooking is watch what you’re cooking. Watch the pot is often what we say.”
Bridge says the role the fire department played was more of a support role.
“Our role was to provide ensure the extinguishment of the fire. So, as I indicated, the home owner did assist in that regard.”
Bridge talks about the statistics behind cooking fires.
“I believe the Ontario Fire Marshal stats would indicate that that it’s in excess of 50% and one of the leading causes of home fires.”
Bridges did not have the statistics for the London Fire Department.
There were two individuals who were in the apartment when the fire broke out. Both people were treated on scene and released.
The London Fire Department is urging people to watch what they are cooking in a post on X.
The cause of the fire was related to cooking.
