The Forest City Healing Centre is open, offering a 28-day residential program. The centre was opened at 534 Queens Ave., by Londoners Drew Weir and Alek Kontic.
The centre offers men who are struggling with addiction an environment to recover.
Drew Weir, the co-founder and CEO, says separating men and women helps the recovery process, because there’s less pressure when you relate more to your peers.
“That’s why there’s men’s groups,” said social worker Gordon Gates. “When you know you’re talking to people that really understand your issues it makes it easier to open up. You don’t feel as much pressure to put on a front.”
Weir said a women’s shelter is planned for the next few years.
The program is a set daily routine, with classes, counselling, yoga, tai chi and other spiritual activities.
Weir said he relates and wants to be able to help make London a better place.
“Two guys that are from London, that have been where people who will be seeking help have been, have come together and truly put all that they have into opening a place that literally can be a pillar for building a brighter future for London,” he said.
