An attempted break-in and other recent criminal activity has people on edge in a central London neighbourhood.
“I put extra security, extra alarm in my business and lock place from inside until the first customer comes because I don’t want to take any chances,” said Dora Jashutek, on Wednesday, after the latest break-in attempt at a home nearl Pall Mall and William streets.
Two London men are facing charges after police said two suspects wearing ski masks tried to force their way into a home while a resident was inside.
“I’m feeling very unsafe,” said Jashutek who owns B&B Snack Bar. “Since this . . . break-in, when I’m coming in the morning here, I really sit in my car, look around my surroundings, so make sure that nobody is here because you never know.”
Another neighbour said he noticed “constant police prescence recently.”
“However, I didn’t know it was because of an attempt of a break in,” said the man who didn’t want to be named because of safety concerns.
But one neighbour who has lived in the area for decades say she still feels safe and credits both the community and police.
“I don’t feel concerned at all. We have a powerful community here in this neighbourhood. It’s a very safe place. We’re out all the time. We know almost all our neighbours,” said Susan, who has lived on Pall Mall Street for nearly 40 years.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact authorities or Crime Stoppers.
Both accused are scheduled to appear in the London court on March 25.
