A London man has been charged in connection to a sexual assault.
Police said on June 1, a teenage girl ordered a ride on a ride-share app near Dundas Street and Adelaide Street.
Police said during the ride, the driver pulled into a parking lot on Commissioners Road East near Pond Mills Road, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her. According to police, the victim was dropped off at home and she contacted police.
On Feb. 10, the suspect turned himself in to the police and was arrested.
He is charged with;
- Sexual assault
- Invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age
- Sexual interference with a person under 16 years of age.
Investigators learned the suspect continued to operate a ride-share with a false name after being arrested. This was in direct breach of his release conditions.
On Feb. 24, the man was arrested again and received more charges;
- Fail to comply with undertaking
- Fraudulent concealment
The accused has been released and is set to reappear in London court on March 19.
The London Police Service reminds the public to verify vehicle and driver information when using a ride-share service. Riders are encouraged to confirm driver details, use verified platforms, sit in the back seat when possible and trust their instincts.
