The Fanshawe Student Union released its election results Wednesday afternoon amid questions about whether two director candidates used artificial intelligence to write their campaign biographies.
During the voting period, questions were raised about whether two director candidates — Amrit Kaur and Avnish Kumar Choudhary used AI to write their bios.
An XFM News review found the bios were identical except for the candidates’ names.
I’m Amrit Kaur, a PSW student and your candidate for FSU Director. My background in healthcare has taught me that real support means showing up when it counts. I’m running to bring empathy, hard work, and a student-first mindset to the Board. I will advocate for practical solutions to your daily challenges and ensure your voice is not just heard, but acted upon. Let’s build a stronger Fanshawe together. Vote Amrit Kaur for FSU Director.

Fanshawe Student Union coordinator Heather Vance said in a statement the union has no election rules addressing AI use in campaign materials.
She said the FSU strongly discourages the use of AI in campaign materials.
“Candidates are responsible for choosing how they represent themselves throughout their campaigns,” Vance said. “It is up to students to carefully and critically assess those campaigns before making an informed voting choice.”
XFM News approached the two candidates at Forwell Hall, but both declined to comment.
Fanshawe’s Cyber Security Program Coordinator, Mansour Alqarni, told XFM News two people would not produce identical text without using AI.
“It’s impossible,” Alqarni said. “If I have 50 students write a paragraph on the same topic, two might be similar, but not word for word.”
He said AI is unavoidable because it is already embedded in society.
“We don’t want to tell them not to use it — they’re going to use it,” he said. “What matters is how they use it. If they don’t learn that in school, they won’t be successful in their work. That’s where integrity comes in.”
He said AI should be a tool for students, not something they rely on for copying and pasting.
“We need to use AI to enhance our ideas, not to let it do our jobs.”
Shadé Dias was elected FSU president for 2026, Avnish Kumar Choudhary and Amrit Kaur were elected FSU directors for 2026.
