A new tuition scam has cost a Vancouver woman $37,000 in fraud.
Students are being approached by scammers promising reduced tuition fees that don’t exist.
They ask for the student’s login credentials and pay the student’s tuition with a stolen credit card.
Later, the fraudulent payment is reversed and tuition is unpaid on the student’s account.
The student has given the scammer money for their tuition but still owes the full tuition amount to their school.
The scam targets international students and is now surfacing in cities across the Canada.
XFM News has approached the London Police Service and Fanshawe Campus Security Services, but neither agencies has reported any incidents or occurrence numbers linked to tuition-related fraud.
Students must be wary of unexpected messages, emails, or calls offering discounts and if you think you’ve been scammed, contact the Office of the Registrar or Campus Security Services immediately.
