Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources announces $28.9 million to fund carbon capture and renewable energy projects.
Tim Hodgson, Natural Resources Minister, made the announcement Friday morning in Markham, Ontario.
Hodgson says the investments in 12 projects across Canada will help the development of clean energy technologies including carbon capture, utilization and storage technologies (CCUS).
Some of the projects will help provide renewable energy solutions with reliable and clean power at a large scale.
The investment money comes from Canada’s Energy Innovation Program for the research, development and projects.
The $28.9 million investment is divided into three areas:
- $16.9 million for five CCUS research and development projects
- $9.2 million towards three renewable energy projects to help communities in Ontario and Alberta; focusing on solar power and agriculture
- $2.8 million for four smart grid projects to help with growing energy demands
