Emergency services responded shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday to a fire at F.E. Madill Secondary School.
A student sustained life-threatening injuries from the fire and was airlifted by Ornge to a trauma centre. Avon Maitland District School Board reports a staff member was also injured.
The school was evacuated. Students and staff were relocated to Maitland River Elementary School before being sent home.
F.E. Madill was closed for the day and the School Board is assessing damages to determine if students and staff can return.
The school board says mental health support is being offered to both staff and students.
West Region OPP requests anyone with video footage related to the fire not to distribute it.
