The London Knights opened the OHL season with two consecutive wins against the Windsor Spitfires, with a 6-2 win on the road following a 3-2 overtime victory to kick off the year.
The season opener against the Spitfires saw the Knights step out onto the rink at Canada Life Place with a new roster of younger players, with Caron Harmer centre and Jonathan Kapageridis offensive defensemen being called up to the local team, and Brendan Wessilyn being traded to the Saginaw Spirits for Harmer.
Mitchell local Carson Harmer merged with the Knights style of playing very well. “It’s a lot of moving parts. With players gone to NHL camps we assess our roster and determine what our lineup is going to look like.” Rob Simpson, Associate General Manager of the Knights stated in an interview.
The London Knights began the season with 80 players and still have about 30 as their roster is still being trimmed.
With trades being up in the air and a team of younger players the Knights hope for another season near the top spot, which they seem to be on track to do with the past games against Windsor.
“I think it’s an opportunity, we have a lot of younger players and a lot of interesting work you can do with them. You are kind of coaching in a different way from the start, so it’s a fun situation and dynamic.” Simpson said.

Simpson says he’s looking forward to seeing how the new players do and how the more veteran guys can show them how to play and think like a London Knight.
The Knights look to continue their winning streak with their new roster facing the Owen Sound Attack this Friday at the WFCU Centre in Windsor.
