Hitachi Energy is investing a $479 million facility that is expected to bring more than 100 new jobs to London, the provincial government announced Friday.
The announcement came just one day after Pharmaline invested in a London factory expected to bring around 70 jobs.
“In the face of global economic uncertainty, our government continues to foster the competitive conditions needed for global companies to confidently expand their presence in Ontario and invest in long-term projects,” said Economic Development Minister Vic Fedeli,
“We are proud to stand as a partner to Hitachi Energy’s latest investment, which will create new, high-value jobs for local workers and further position Ontario as a central hub for advanced manufacturing projects powering the economy and future.” Said Fedeli.
The new Transformer Insulation Factory is expected to be completed by 2028. In a press release by Hitachi, the investment will create a critical manufacturing capability that doesn’t exist in Canada.
The planned 21 thousand square meter facility will feature Canada’s first pressboard line and Hitachi’s first in the Americans, it is expected to produce a critical transformer insulation material closer to the North American market.
“The new Transformer Insulation Factory will strengthen supply resilience, support our customers’ growth ambitions, and help address one of the most critical bottlenecks in transformer manufacturing.” said Helmut Bockshammer the Manager of Insulation and Components Business Unit Transformers at Hitachi Energy.
The Canadian and Ontario Governments both announced a $20 million investment through the Strategic Response Fund (SRF) and Invest Ontario Fund, while Natural Resources Canada added $10 million to Hitachi Energy Canada Inc.
