With a commanding 8-4 victory over the Lambton Lions on Saturday October 24 the Fanshawe Falcons would finish the sweep, winning the second gold medal in the program’s history as well as the first time the program has won in back-to-back years. This would also be a historic year as they would set the record for the most wins in a single season.
The scoring started early with two errors from Lambton’s third basemen creating an opportunity for Owen Constantineau, who would hit a sac fly that scored both runners. The Lions answered back quickly with two of their own the next inning and a third run in the third inning. But the tides would shift when Falcons Catcher Hunter Wright hit a game tying solo shot to start the third.
The Falcons wouldn’t look back scoring 4 more runs with Neil McComb only allowing one more run in a 102 pitch complete game.
Holden Hipel would be named the postseason MVP with teammates Hunter Wright and Brady Boughner would be named postseason all-stars
After the bottles were popped, and celebrations began the Playoff MVP and regular season MVP would give his thoughts on the team and the season “it’s unreal, we had a great team both years and we just keep getting better.”
Longtime Veteran of the team Charlie Bowman also shared his feeling on finally receiving his first championship, after missing out on the previous year “it’s absolutely unbelievable… I don’t think words can describe how good this feels to come back and get retribution”
And for a handful of players this would be the first time experiencing a Fanshawe championship, like catcher Hunter Wright “it means a lot as a first year guy, having to fill a big spot behind the plate… I thought I stepped up in that final game.”
