Construction has become an all too common site in London, with many roads closed or rerouted in because of it. One of these roads is Wellington Road, where construction for the rapid bus transit system has been going on there since 2024. Wellington Road also hosts many businesses that have been impacted by the construction, ranging from restaurants, to car repair shops, and nail salons.
This year has been worse than others” said Andrew Cardinal, the shop manager of a VIP AutoPro on Wellington. “ I think mostly because they actually started construction on the main intersection at Commissioners in Wellington, and that has people avoiding the area altogether.”
Fong Pham, the president of another business on Wellington, Fantastic Nails and Spa says that if the municipal government does not support small businesses who are impacted by construction, that many small businesses will be forced to close permanently.
“With what’s going on right now and if the cities or the government’s not pitching in to care for us, I don’t think any of us will survive” Pham said. “Small businesses, definitely not going to survive.“
