When it comes to food, everyone has their own preferences. Either because of religion, health, convictions or other reasons, humans have very different types o diets. When it comes vegetarians, they are the same. “Some people confuse vegetarians with vegans, or think they’re the same thing. Vegans don’t eat dairy, eggs, or anything that comes from an animal. Vegetarians will eat those products, but won’t eat an actual animal” said Mariana Prado, who is a nutrition student at western, and a vegan herself.
There are several reasons why people choose to do this. From health reasons, environmental reasons, or just a lifestyle change, every case is different. According to Mariana, she started as a vegetarian when she was in high school, but became a vegan in her second year of university. “When you watch movies or get into understanding the whole industry behind meats and when you understand how some products are made, it really makes you question wether you want to contribute to such thing” said Mariana, who said you shouldn’t do it as a diet or out of peer pressure, but do it as a real lifestyle change.
