A homeless man who regularly scavenges through the blue dumpsters behind 675 Richmond Street found something traumatizing and unforgettable to the mind.
On Thursday, at around 11:30 a.m. this homeless man came across a dead infant inside a reusable shopping bag, then he immediately reported the discovery to a worker within the building.
Police at the scene announced a major crime investigation as police surrounded the caution taped area all around the building. Residents weren’t able to go back inside of the building for a few hours.
Tayla Filion is a Brescia student and resident of 675 Richmond, and she has only been living there for three months. Most residents within this building are students.
Tayla said, “This is extremely disturbing. I can see that dumpster from my window and I hear it open every morning at 8a.m.”
Eventually, funeral services came and removed the body with a baby car seat and a blanket behind the dumpster so no one could see the deceased.
The environment was quiet and sombre as people watched from a far in disbelief of the situation, and one’s assumptions and motives behind the act.
No questions can be answered at this time, as an autopsy still needs to be done; however, Media Relations Office, Sandasha Bough says more information will be released as it is discovered. Police are also looking for video surveillance in the general area that may help answer the investigative questions.
Police are asking that if anyone can provide them with clues or more information to contact them immediately. If you can help call London police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
