Fanshawe held their Sexual Awareness Fair in Forwell Hall today. The fair was a time for students to have a little fun, but to educate themselves while doing it. Mocktails were served up by the Fanshawe Student Union, and games were played by students and staff.
Community partners attended the fair including: the Regional Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Treatment Program, the Middlesex London Health Unit, the London Abused Women’s Centre, Sexual Assault Centre London, Spot of Delight, Carrefour des Femmes, Campus Security Services, Fowler Kennedy Health Services, Fanshawe’s Campus Life Facilitator, Fanshawe’s Sexual Violence Prevention Advisor, and the Fanshawe Student Union. The organizations were set up in their respective booths, where students could visit and discover some of their on and off campus resources.
FSU VP Internal, Kevin Kaisar, says sexual awareness is an important to bring awareness to, because it can touch everyone.
“For a lot of people, it might be their first time at college, and they might not necessarily know a lot of the stuff about sexual health and wellness in more detail,” says Kaisar. “Basically we brought the experts in to tell you about everything you need to know as a young adult who may or may not be away from home for the first time, or maybe having sex for the first time, that kind of thing.”
Kaisar says that in college, it’s best to be prepared for any type of situation that could occur to you or someone you may know.
“Hopefully this doesn’t happen, but if something bad does happen, they can be aware of their options and what they can do, and what resources are available to them,” says Kaisar.
The sexual awareness week continues tonight in room D1041 at Fanshawe for the Sexual Awareness Short Film Festival. Youtube sensation, Laci Green, will also hold an event in Fanshawe’s J Gym tomorrow night at 8PM called “Taking down rape culture.”
