The Fanshawe Falcons defied all odds last season after capturing the 2016 OCAA men’s volleyball championship, a first in the program in over 46 years. For this season, The Falcons are hoping to re-capture the magic of last year as Fanshawe hosts the 2016 CCAA national volleyball tournament. Patrick Johnston is the head coach of the Fanshawe Falcons and he says the goals for his team this season is to win another OCAA title and win the CCAA championship in front of the home crowd.
This will be the first time the City of London hosts a post-secondary volleyball tournament from Western or Fanshawe and for 2017, Fanshawe are hoping that the big prize will attract big attention. Patrick Johnston also says that the Volleyball program has gone through big changes in the last 4 years to help Fanshawe become the powerhouse it is in OCAA. Last season saw the Fanshawe Falcons go 16-2 which was a big improvement over their 2014-2015 record of 12-6. Coach Johnston also adds that only losing 1 starter to graduation and gaining 3 new players will help the returning core of Falcons have the highest odds to take the national title. The two teams to watch out this season to challenge the Falcons are the Mohawk Moutanieers and Niagara Knights.
Fanshawe opens their season on October 26th as they host the Niagara Knights.
