Mac vs PC, a rivalry dating back to the 1980’s. This competition between the two super giants of the tech world has fans of either hardwares defending their buy. The question is who is winning the computer war?
Klaas Stoker is a professor at Fanshawe College in the IT department and he says that there is not much of difference between the two other than one main thing, “The main difference is that Mac is tied to the software to the hardware while Windows is independent on the hardware you run it on.”
According to statistics, Microsoft Windows has approximately 91% of the market share, while the Apple Mac OS has around 5% of the market share. The other 4% is owned by other operating systems such as Linux.
For Avi Maharajahd, a student in IT, he thinks Microsoft is winning the war because how they market their products. ” Microsoft really markets well as their software on products is cheap. Microsoft Office is one of the largest downloadable applications in the world. Also, the hardware you buy using Microsoft is so much cheaper than say buying an apple product which can cost you over 1000 dollars.”
Another reason Microsoft is winning the war as Windows is able to run majority of games as a powerful platform while Apple’s Mac is processed to more friendly programs such as video making and music making. A reason for this as game developers and producers have decided to step away from the low audience community of Apple.
The question will be, can Apple replicate their success in the phone market to the computer market in the future.
