The London Knights haven’t won a shootout in over 2 years, and the streak continued on Wednesday night.
In a rare mid-week home game at Budweiser Gardens, the Knights fell 3-2 to the Sarnia Sting.
Max Jones and Janne Kuokkanen scored for London, while Drake Rymshaw potted the shootout winner for Sarnia.
Afterward, defenseman Olli Juolevi expressed his distate for the mini-game.
“It’s frustrating when we have to go to a shootout,” he said.
“We got about 50 shots in this game, and 15 grade A scoring chances, so we should be scoring more.”
The Knights looked like the better team overall, but Sarnia had long stretches of play in the Knights zone throughout the game.
There were 22 minutes in penalties in the contest, including a spirited tilt between Max Jones and Jeff King, which earned the latter a game misconduct.
“We play them a lot, and anytime you play any team a lot it’ll get chippy,” said forward Sam Militec.
“The more you play each other, the more you don’t like each other.”
It was the last time London and Sarnia will face off in the regular season; the Knights finished 4-1-0-1 against the Sting.
If the Western Conference rivals are destined to meet in the post-season, it’ll be a spirited affair to say the least.
London remains at home this weekend; they host the Ottawa 67s on Friday night, before welcoming the Niagra Ice Dogs to Budweiser Gardens on Sunday afternoon.
