London police have made an arrest after a 24-year-old man allegedly threatened to shoot people inside London Muslim Mosque.
Officers were called to the Mosque on Oxford Street, and made the arrest shortly after 1:30 pm.
In a statement released on Facebook Sunday evening, the mosque states they are not treating this as a hate crime and believes “there is no on-going threat to the mosque.”
The incident all began when the 24-year-old man entered the mosque during a prayer service, looking for food and assistance. According to the mosque, “after being provided with some food, he persisted in his asks.” which led to a verbal confrontation the situation escalated and he made threats to those present.”
In the statement the mosque also stressed that staff and volunteers are trained for this kind of scenario.
“Staff and volunteers at the Mosque have been trained to call London Police in any circumstance where there is any suggestion of a security threat, and this protocol was followed.”
The Mosque is currently open and operating under normal schedule.
