The Coldest night of the year is a national winter walk organized by the Mission Services of London to help the hungry, hurting and homeless.
The 2 and 5 km walk is held on Saturday February 21st, the 10 km may be cancelled due to cold weather.
Communications and PR Manager at Mission Services in London, Connie Spuria says if you’re interested in taking part, it’s not too late!
Spuria says you can register online or you can show up event day and register. Registration opens at 4 o’clock and participants will receive a toque. Spuria says you can fundriase to have your entrance fee waved. Fundraising amounts vary depending on age.
Walkers who raise $150 (adults) or $75 (youth aged 13-17) do not have to pay the $25 registration fee.
Spuria adds the goal is to raise $60,000 again this year, last years same goal was passed. She says they are hoping to have about 300 people participate. Since 2011 the Coldest Night of the Year has raised $4.9 million through the tireless efforts of the location partners.
If you’re planning on attending the walk you’re being advised to dress warmly and in layers. Spuria says after the walk chili will be served, made by the Mission Services kitchen. The walk has been in London 4 times, and 5 times nationally and continues to be a success.
