This coming Friday around 500 soldiers will make their way south of the border for 1 week, to participate in one of the largest reserve exercises of the year, Arrowhead shield. coming from all over South Western Ontario, From as far north as Owen Sound, all the way down to Windsor. These soldiers from various reserve regiments will participate in a weeks worth of defensive training.
During an interview with XFM news Lieutenant Colonel Mark Poland spoke about the importance exercises like Arrowhead Shield engage in training usually not available to reserve members, like the opportunity for trades like the infantry, artillery and armored recce to work hand in hand to accomplish larger objectives.
Members from London’s 3 different regiments, The 1st Hussars, 31 Service Battalion and The 4th Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment will all be taking part in Arrowhead Shield, Reserve soldiers are part time members of the Canadian Forces who volunteer their time in service to the military.
All the soldiers heading to Camp Grayling Michigan to participate in Arrowhead Shield are volunteers, many of whom will just be finishing up their respective trade training this summer and the exercise will be their first time out as part of their new regiments.
Arrowhead Shield is an exercise that will help maintain the army goal of an operational ready force. With training like that offered here Canadians can rest assured that their soldiers will always be strong, proud and ready.
