With Thanksgiving weekend on its way, post-secondary students will still have two months of school to endure before their next break.
Students at Fanshawe College get Friday and Monday to rest, and Western University students are treated to a full week off after Thanksgiving weekend. This difference between a four-day break and a nine-day break has Fanshawe students feeling jealous.
Many Fanshawe students are concerned for their well-being over the next two months. With only four days for family and studies, many feel that there isn’t enough time to relax and de-stress.
For many students, the time constraints don’t stop there. Other responsibilities like part-time jobs can eat into their free time this weekend.
“Some other students have other things to worry about in their life,” says one Fanshawe student. “For example, I have a job, and at the same time, I’m a single dad, so I need to take time out of my day for work and for my kid. And aside from that, having those midterms and assignments all pile up together is just a little too much, so I think we should get the same amount of time as Western students.”
Others don’t even feel that they can spend quality time with their families over the weekend. “I’m still going to be thinking about school the whole weekend,” says another Fanshawe student. “If I had more time, I know that I’d be a lot less stressed out and I’d be able to actually enjoy the time with them.”
Both Fanshawe College and Western University provide students with a full week off during the second semester in February. Many Fanshawe students are hoping that a similar vacation will come to the fall semester in the near future.
