Raptors fans or any basketball fan would know that the Toronto raptors had a crazy offseason to say the least. Losing the franchises scoring leader and arguably best player ever. But then receiving what nba experts call a “top 3” player in kawhi Leonard it was a lot for raptors fans to digest at first. But with the season already underway raptors fans have this sense of renewed energy.
A large contributor is Danny green who was also acquired in the Demar derozan Jakob Hertl Trade that seen kahwi and danny come. Danny is quickly becoming a fan favourite he spoke in front the crowd before game one wednesday night and said he loves the fans love and support they are showing and hopes to see that all season. On the floor the raptors are much deeper squad adding danny who is a perimeter threat that can stretch the floor for big guys like valanciunas and ibaka.
Raptors owner masai ujiri had this to say prior to the season in a interview with sportsnet’s Tim Micallef “somewhere somehow you have to understand a position like this when there is a top 5 player available it can make your team better” he believes that this team needed a player like kawhi leonard.
The raptors also have a bench that finished first in the N.B.A last year in scoring led by young players like Delon Wright, Pascal Siakam , Fred Vanvleet and OG anunoby. Raptors fans referred to the bench as “bench mob” because of their ability to come into the game and score on you quickly.
Looking at the coaching change this year although it wasn’t the popular decision firing dwane casey after becoming the coach of the year it is a move that ownership felt had to be made. The raptors still hired from within by picking up coach Nick Nurse the guy behind the offence last year that won 59 games. Nurse was Casey’s assistant in Toronto for a while but is ready to lead the team. Here is what he had to say when asked how it feels to be coach “it feels pretty good , last month was a long month for me but as masai said they had a process and due diligence to do and to be honest i didn’t mind waiting for the decision but yes i’m excited to be head coach”.
The raptors have been very successful over the years making the playoffs in five straight seasons and also seeing a eastern conference finals berth the team has had its fair share of success. For raptors fans i hope this year is the best to come
