The Western Mustangs men’s hockey team saw a close game against the McGill Redmen Saturday night. The game ended in a 2-1 loss for Western as the Redmen pulled ahead in the third and final period. After winning the home opener the night prior against the Concordia Stingers, the Mustangs were looking to keep their streak lead by Coach Clarke Singer.
Off to a slow start, the first period ended still tied with no score on the board. Most of the games action took place during the second period where the goal that started it all was taken by McGill player, Nikolas Brouillard. The chippy game saw 5 penalties for the Redmen and 8 for the Mustangs. These powers play opportunities were not used to a great advantage as the Mustangs were 0 for 3 while the Redmen were able to scrape together 1 for 6.
The game saw Mustang goalie Luke Peresinni hold off 18 of the 20 shots on net, compared to McGill goaltender Louis-Philip Guidon who withstood 17 of the 18 Western shots. Those two goals against Western were scored by the RadioWestern Player of the Game Nikolas Brouillard.
