Students are up in arms over the new proposed OSAP legislation put forward by the Ford government. The proposition includes getting rid of the Ontario Student Grants, and removing the 6 month grace period; which currently means no interest on student loans for 6 months after graduation. The grace period seems to be the major concern for most people, since that 6 months can be crucial when looking for employment after graduation.
“It’s an absolute disgrace, and Ford should be ashamed of himself,” says London North Centre MPP Terence Kernaghan. “This benefits no one, and schools will be forced to cut costs at the students’ expense.”
Kernaghan isn’t wrong, since tuition will now be cut by 10%. Colleges and universities will be forced to cut costs in terms of faculty, and the services the schools provide.
It is unclear what this legislation means for current students who agreed to the old OSAP regulations, so we’ll have to wait and see what the government comes out with.
