The email responding the student unions was signed "Doug" and requested a donation to the PC Party.
The Premier Doug Ford answered the letter sent by Fanshawe College student union, Western and more 75 post-secondary institutions across the country saying: “I think we all know what kind of crazy Marxist nonsense student unions get up to.”
Jahmoyia Smith, President of Fanshawe Student Union said to XFM News that the reaction of the Premier are “Upsetting and needlessly sensational.”
The letter signed by student unions was sent in January and the purpose was defending students who will have a hard time due to the OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program) cuts and ancillary fee opt-out.
“I really hope that this is not the Premier’s actual perception of student unions in this province.”
Smith adds that student unions do real and important work based on evidence, not ideology.
“We advocate for students. We are here to serve them, and we’ll continue to do it so.”
Smith also revealed to XFM News that they asked the premier to apologize and recant what was communicated in the PC party fundraising email.
“I call on the PC government to meet with student leaders, listen to our concerns, and reverse the Students’ Choice Initiative.”
Also, at the end of the email answering the student unions was the name “Doug” and requested a donation to the PC Party.
