Fanshawe alumni Lisa Jane Dawson has built a shop with the skills she has gained from the Fashion Design program at Fanshawe College. She used her experience in this program and cooperated with her life memories to create a business. She created an edgy country lifestyle themed shop called the four elks.
“This all started off as a hobby, I would create random shirts and sell them, but now it has turned it into a full-time job” was explained by Lisa when asked how her shop all started.
The Four elks shop showcases her self-designed clothing, candles, and jewelry.
She gets her fabrics imported from all over the world, and some of her favorite and popular designs like her self-designed kimonos fabrics are imported from Japan.
She creates her own candles and sents with natural soy. She names the candles after very significant memories in childhood. For example, a very subtle sweet calming scent is named Grandma’s garden.
All of her candles aren’t overpowering and are known for their calming way to fill the room up slowly with aroma.
Her choice of jewelry is what catches a lot of people’s eyes and what she is known for.
She uses refurbished gun bullets from local ranges around Ontario and creates beautiful jewelry like necklaces and earrings with crystals and rocks in them. Also some for the men as well like bullet clips and money clips.
“The soft and edgy look is something I was always surrounded by and interested in. Also, why not reuse something like bullets and make it into something fun and edgy to us in our lives” this is what Lisa said that inspired her to use bullets as a center item for her jewelry.
She puts her love, had work and memories into her work and finds this store welcoming to everyone.
People can shop online at www.fourelks.com or visit her at the western fair to see her beautifully designed clothing and handmade natural products every weekend.
