Norfolk County OPP are warning the public of romance and dating scams after a senior lost $300,000.
Police were informed Thursday night that a senior was in a relationship with someone they had met online.
The couple exchanged emails, and at one point, the suspect claimed that an emergency had occurred and they were in serious need of money.
Police say the victim then forwarded $300,000 between the span of July to November.
Officials say singles, especially women are among the growing number of victims getting scammed through romantic and dating scams.
Police are advising people to be careful when meeting potential partners online, and be suspicious when they request for money.
