The Basketball world lost one of it’s greatest ever on Sunday morning when Kobe Bryant tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. Bryant’s daughter Gianna(GiGi) was among the other eight who were killed in the crash. The helicopter was on the way to a basketball practice at the Mamba Academy when the chopper went down. Bryant had a twenty-year career, and he played all twenty with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Kobe Bryant inspired many people on the court and inspired many to pick up a ball including one unnamed Fanshawe student.
“Yeah, I remember the first NBA finals I watched was Los Angeles vs (Orlando) Magic and just seeing Kobe ball out against Dwight Howard was incredible and I’ve watched the NBA ever since.”
Not only did Kobe inspire people on the court he also inspired many off the court as well. One of the reasons people looked up to Kobe was his work ethic.
“Yeah, Kobe was so inspiring because whatever he wanted to do he put his mind to it and he didn’t stop until he accomplished that goal. His work ethic was also something inspiring because he worked so hard off the court.”
Kobe is known for having multiple memorable moments throughout his career. From his 81 points against Toronto to putting up 60 in his retirement game and eliminating the Utah Jazz from the Playoffs, people will always remember Kobe. One Fanshawe student remembers one legendary game against Michael Jordan in 2003 though above the rest.
“Yeah there was a game where Kobe had 55 points and 42 of them came in the first half of the game and watching something like that was incredible because he didn’t care who he was going against he was going to get buckets.”
Kobe Bryant was 41 years old and his daughter Gianna was 13. Kobe is survived by his wife Vanessa, and children, Tatiana, Bianka, and Capri. Authorities are still investigating the crash.
