Despite releasing on last Friday the 13th, the launch of Activision-Blizzard’s latest title “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” was anything but unlucky, as the new game broke records.
Anna Malmhake, a Blizzard executive released the following statement:
“Friday’s release of Black Ops Cold War set a new record as the highest first day digital sales worldwide in franchise history. Thank you to Call of Duty players everywhere”.
not only did the franchise set a day one digital sales record, but according to market research from Mat Piscatella at NPD Group, “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” is expected to be the best selling video game of 2020. Should the game meet those expectations, that would mark the twelfth consecutive year that the “Call of Duty” franchise retains the number one spot, a trend that began with the release of “Call of Duty: World at War” in 2008.
“Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War” was released digitally on Activision-Blizzard’s own “Battle.net” platform, the Xbox Marketplace and the PlayStation store at a cost of $79.99 plus tax.
