Jordan’s 4th annual Run the Runway event is taking place Friday night at the London International Airport. The event was made in memory of Jordan Strickland, who died at the age of 27 in a car accident. Jordan grew up with speech and mobility issues, but the YMCA’s Queen Elizabeth Camp made sure Jordan could do anything any other camp-goer could do. It was Jordan’s favourite place in the world. Jordan got around on rocky terrain, went canoeing, rock climbing and portaged down the rapids. There was never any limits placed on Jordan because of the amazing staff at the Queen Elizabeth Camp.
Now the YMCA camp is the beneficiary of all the funds raised in Jordan’s Run the Runway event. Jordan’s mother, Janice Strickland said last year’s fundraiser raised over $100 000, and they expect to surpass that, this year. The money pays for kids that cannot afford to go to camp. Along with the 5k run, they will be raising money with a huge silent auction. Some of the items include: WestJet tickets, a BBQ, alcohol and much more.
The schedule for tonight goes as the following:
6:00 PM – Silent Auction
6:15 PM – Kids Run
6:45 PM – 5K Run/Walk
7:15 PM – Reception in Diamond Aircraft Hangar with Food, Beer and Wine, Silent Auction and great Prizes!
7:30 PM – Jordan’s Tribute Video
