The Human Library is looking for Fanshawe international and domestic students and other community members to be part of ‘Human Books.’
“Anyone with a unique story, and who is willing to share it with us, is more than welcome to apply,” says Jessica Myshrall, Project Coordinator with Shift Collab.
The project encourages people to be more thoughtful and to ‘not judge a book by its cover.’
“It can be anything. Stories about mental illness, any struggles, for example, addiction or homelessness. Something that people has experienced and that it is unique to them,” she says.
The idea is to help students acknowledged that everyone has their own struggles and that everyone got a story.
“We pair them up with other Human Books, so those students can have an open conversation with them one-on-one for 20 minutes and ask questions.”
Real Campus Tour Human Library, in partnership with Fanshawe College, then lets students know what type of services are available at Fanshawe that fits their personal issue.
“Some of the things that came up in the past where, one person had a body modification, someone had lost a child, someone had bipolar disorder,” adds Myshrall.
Ten students or community members will be selected to be ‘Human Books’. There is not other requirement than applying and briefly mentioning what you would like to talk about.
Real Campus (Re:Tour) will be visiting Fanshawe’s main Campus on Wednesday, January 30 at the Forwell Hall, Student Union Building.
