Currently the London Health Sciences Centre is operating the region’s first mass vaccination centre inside the Western Fair Agriplex. It has the capacity to give up to 1,000 vaccines per day. A strategy to achieve that task is detailed in the Middlesex-London Health Unit’s 36-page vaccination plan. The tentative capacity goal for mass vaccination clinics in the Middlesex-London region is 3,000 vaccines per day,” states the report.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that “With every Canadian who wants to get vaccinated will be able to get vaccinated by September.” With the vaccines rolling out, there has been lots of discussion on receiving that vaccine across media platforms.
Londoner, Owen Wilkinson, 22 years old, is currently opposing receiving the vaccination and particularly the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
“I’m just not too trusting in the fact that a company that makes Viagra is going to be the same company that’s engineering a vaccine to fight a deadly virus.”
Emily kindree, 46, is an operating room Nurse at Victoria hospital. She wants to be the “first line of defence against COVID-19”. Kindree feels that if we can stop transmissions in the hospital, it will lead to a safer community.
“Having the vaccine will be great. Nobody is passing it on to patients or at least the chances of passing it on are a lot less.”
Kindree feels that receiving the vaccination will decrease the fears of “hospital overflow”.
“It won’t be back logging our hospitals and our hospital beds. People will be able to go home which is what they want to do. They don’t want to stay in the hospital. No health professional wants to have the stressors of not being able to look after patients properly because of overflow.”
Katelynn Schatteman, 21, Chicago Illinois, studies Social justice and Peace studies at Western University. She wants the COVID-19 vaccination. She feels that it is the fastest way to “normalcy”. Shatteman is concerned that the beliefs people are having towards the side effect of the vaccine are deterring them away from it.
“People are afraid of any side effects that we don’t know about yet because not a lot of research has been done. But they’re not taking in the research we have from COVID-19 recipients. Being from the U. S. I’ve seen an insane number of cases.”
