The London International Airport has been struggling since the start of the pandemic. The airport has had to reduce their workforce by about 25 per cent and their operating expense by about 35 per cent. The airport has received some financial help from the government but has still lost money every month since we went into the pandemic.
The business at the London Airport could improve soon as flights to holiday destinations like Cancun and Cuba are anticipated to resume in the Winter but not much is expected before spring of next year.
“We are still considerably behind where we were before the pandemic in 2019. So, we are operating right now at about 25-20 per cent of our normal capacity. We are anticipating a small increase this winter, we have some winter charters that are going down to the Caribbean and southern destinations but we are not really expecting a huge uptake in flights until hopefully the spring of 2022,” said Mike Seabrook, CEO and President of the London international Airport.
Mike also says that the return of normal air services is the only way for the London Airport and other airports in Canada to recover financially. “If you talk to the experts… they don’t believe that the Canadian aviation industry will fully recover for at least another three or four years.”
