Canada’s men soccer team has broken into the top 50 FIFA rankings since the ranking system was revamped in 2018. The Canadian soccer team started the year at no. 72. They have been on an upward trajectory this year and have a record of 11-2-4 after 17 games. The latest ranking came in after the national team went unbeaten in the October World Cup qualifiers and beat Panama 4-1 in their last game. The team led by John Herdman has outscored their opposition 52-10 the year.
Tomas Alvarez, a Fanshawe soccer player believes the progress made by the Canada soccer team will serve as motivation to the upcoming generation of players. “You have your Buchanan’s, your Alphonso Davies that started off in the Canadian system, it gives the youth something to look up to.”
Canada’s only losses this year have come up against the U.S and Mexico in the Gold Cup. In CONCACAF, which covers North and Central America and the Caribbean, only Costa Rica, U.S and Mexico have a better FIFA ranking.
Canada Soccer's Men's National Team were ranked 4th in Concacaf and 48th overall in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, in fact making the biggest jump in points (+16.11) of all Concacaf nations after the October window#CANMNT

Tomas also says that Canada can take over their CONCACAF rivals in the next five or so years as they have a great young team which will only get better. The men’s national soccer team will return to action on November 12th for a World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica.
