‘The Story’ is a pop-up shop event organized by Fanshawe’s Fashion Marketing program. The students in the program hand pick the most stylish clothing and accessories from goodwill to sell to customers as part of their event planning class.
The focus of this event is to raise awareness for mental health and support sustainable fashion. The Story is a fundraiser that was founded by Professor Deb Trotechaud 6 years ago.
“The clothing has a story because it’s second-hand. All the money raised goes towards a scholarship for students so that they can change their story and be successful.”
In the past, it used to be a big event held in the goodwill ballroom where hundreds of customers would attend.
The students in the Fashion Marketing program’s goal is to create inclusivity and community through fashion. Durrel Brown is a student that wants to encourage everybody to connect through learning from different fashion styles.
“We all have different perspectives, we’ve all had different experiences and we all come from different backgrounds. It was nice to learn from each other and boost each other up.”
The Story runs during November 22-26 at the Siskind Gallery at Fanshawe College. Visit them in store 10am – 4pm and 3pm – 8pm on Wednesday or online at livechic.ca.
