Five Takeaways from Week 12 of the NFL Season

Another week has passed in the NFL, and that means more takeaways to talk about. Specific teams are currently deadlocked in battles for divisional crowns and playoff spots, while some are hoping to win a game. It is a crazy week that involved a crazy Thanksgiving Thursday and a continuing downhill fall of some of the league’s most prominent teams. These are all the biggest takeaways from Week 12 of the NFL Season.

The Cowboys lose again.

It is a tale as old as time. The Cowboys are looking great until they decide it is time for their yearly collapse. A team that once was 6-1 and looking unbeatable now are 7-4, losing 3 of their last four games. This is not at all Quarterback Dak Prescott’s fault as he has been solid all year long. Unfortunately, the Cowboys are just a banged-up team right now, and they cannot seem to get healthy. The Cowboys lost on Thanksgiving Thursday to the Las Vegas Raiders in an overtime loss they should have won. Cowboys kicker Greg Zuerlein missed an extra point that cost them the game. The Cowboys will have to right the ship quick if they hope to win the NFC East. They play the Saints this Thursday night.

The Patriots might be the AFC’s best team.

Once again, let me know if you have heard this one before. The Patriots might be the best team in the AFC. After a year where nothing went right, the Patriots have turned a rebuild into a top contender with rookie Quarterback Mac Jones. The departure of Tom Brady made it seem like the Patriots were destined to be a bottom team for years to come but not so fast. The Patriots’ defense is still as deadly as ever, and they once again have an offense that can score points. The Patriots currently sit tied for first in the AFC with the Ravens and Titans. However, the Pats battle the Bills on Monday Night Football and, with a win, could secure first place in the conference.

The AFC West continues to be unpredictable.

If you told me that through 12 weeks of the season, every team in the AFC West would be within a game of each other, you would have sounded crazy. But here we are! The Chiefs, Broncos, Chargers, and Raiders all sit within a game of each other, and all could win the division. This is even more heartbreaking for the Broncos since their most considerable losses came due to injuries. This could have been a year where they took back the crown. So far, the Chiefs have been a mixed bag, losing games they should win, and the Raiders and Chargers are performing as expected. Who will come out on top at the end of the season? It’s anyone’s guess at this point.

The Rams are still losing despite big signings.

Riddle me this; if you were to sign two all-star players to an already stacked roster, you would think that would result in a winning streak, right? But, you would be wrong because the Rams have lost three straight games since acquiring Linebacker Von Miller and Wide Receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Yet, the team somehow performed better without these two star players on the team. It makes no sense and is a situation the Rams need to rebound from if they hope to catch the Cardinals in their division.

Washington Football Team remains on fire.

The Washington Football Team has extended their win streak to 3 games. This comes at a great time as the Cowboys are derailing. This has let Washington climb right back in the race for the NFC West division. Washington will need to continue this hot streak if they hope to make the playoffs, as their chances of a wild card spot are looking unlikely. Next up, they play the Eagles, Raiders, and Cowboys twice. Winning those games should lead them to the division crown.
