Last Friday, the London Homeless Coalition hosted a ‘Soup N’ Bread’ memorial event due to it being ‘World Homeless Action Day’. People gathered on the Covent Garden Market to come together and pay their respects to the 57 homeless people that died while living on the streets. Stories were told and poems were recited, while all attendees could warm up with a cup of soup, coffee or tea.

Besides the coffee and tea, homeless people could get some extra warm clothing that was provided by the ‘Keeping Kids Warm’ organisation.
Here in London, we have about 3,000 homeless people, which is as many as in Toronto.

Several bags of clothing were spread across the table so that everyone could take what they needed. It was confronting to see how quickly the clothing disappeared from the table, but it showed everyone how big the problem is here in London.
Jordan from the ‘Keeping Kids Warm’ organisation, explains what they do and what their goal is for the future:
Would you like to help? You can do so by collecting old warm clothing to donate to the organization or for those who are good with a knitting needle, there are the weekly knitting classes to make warm sweaters, gloves and scarves. More information can be found on the ‘Keeping Kids Warm’ website.
