The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has asked all casinos, lottery, and igaming operators to stop offering and accepting wagers on all Ultimate Fight Championship events effective immediately over “non-compliance” to its integrity requirements.
The AGCO said in a news release, they learned “publicized alleged incidents, including possible betting by UFC insiders, as well as reports of suspicious betting patterns”
The UFC does not prohibit insiders from betting. This includes coaches, managers, trainers, and other personnel with information not accessed to the public.
Once necessary steps have been taken, the AGCO told operators they can provide information showing that UFC betting meets the Registrar’s Standards.
“The Standards exist to protect the betting public and to provide the necessary safeguards against odds manipulation, match-fixing and other integrity issues. This is not a decision we take lightly, knowing the popularity of UFC events in Ontario’s sports books.” AGCO Registrar and CEO Tom Mungham
Although the AGCO wasn’t specific about the alleged incident, the commission “continue to work with gaming operators, the OLG, iGaming Ontario and UFC to ensure that wagering on UFC events meets the AGCO’s Standards.”
The next UFC event is UFC 282 and will take place Dec. 10th.
