A new Educational Technology request form will be launched at the beginning of February with the goal to help and instruct professors and other faculty members how to use certain softwares or other educational technology.
“This is a web portal where faculty members can go into and ask about a certain software that they want to learn more about, the portal then sends the information to an email address which everyone has access to. From there anyone who has more knowledge on that specific software can step up and help,” said Dana Morningstar the Co-Chair of the EdTech group.
This process has been worked on by a committee of cross-college people, who have been developing it for over a year now.
In addition, the process will not only help out professors and faculty members but will ultimately benefit all students as well.
“The easier it is for a faculty member to ask for and enact a new application that they use in the classroom, the better it is for students because they will get a variety of delivery methods and different approaches to how they learn,” added Morningstar
Morningstar also adds that the process will also help protect the college against free softwares that could be harmful, and could potentially put the college at risk.
“It is important for cybersecurity and a lot of people when using free softwares don’t check first to make sure it is safe, and that is where the portal comes into action.”
Many professors are already taking advantage of new technology and softwares in the classroom.
Kim Wilmink e-Learning Coordinator and Professor in the Tourism and Hospitality Culinary Arts program says having these new technologies available is exciting and innovative.
“It is really exciting to have educational technology in the classroom, it’s a great way to engage learners, and it will offer different ways for these learners to connect with different material when absorbing it for the first time.”
The official updated launch for the portal will be on February 6th, and all staff and faculty will be able to take advantage of it.
