Fanshawe College is partnering with the London Chamber of Commerce to offer students who may not graduate high school a better path in life. This will be done through a program called Reboot Plus, which will give these individuals a second chance at succeeding.
“It doesn’t matter what has happened in their lives until now, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel,” says Kristen Duever the Vice President of Public Relations for the London Chamber of Commerce.
“We are hoping to show these youth students that this program can and will lead them towards success in their lives,” she adds
Participants of this program will range from ages 17 to 24, from diverse backgrounds that will get to complete career assessments, build the necessary skills and develop proper career and education plans for themselves.
“Our target is young people who may be at risk of not finishing high school, who may be facing challenges and giving them that push for them to find the career that fits them best.”
Fanshawe College will be taking care of the classes and in-person lessons, helping students explore the various opportunities, while the London Chamber of Commerce will guide and connect those individuals with their chosen career paths.
“Once these youths identify what career path they want, the Chamber will then reach out to and connect these students with professionals who will further help them with presentations and interviews.”
The program was originally developed by Douglas College of New Westminster, British Columbia, and has been running in many other places in Canada very successfully as well.
“This is a pilot project and we do hope it continues on, and becomes as successful here as it is in other parts of the country,” she says “The future of the program will depend on how well it does on this first run.”
“We are proud and excited about the program. This is a great opportunity for London, and will be beneficial for our local businesses, local economy, and of course the participants.”
The 16-week program begins next week, and any high school students dealing with any struggles are welcome to take part in this project.
