Although the season hasn’t started yet, it’s still a very exciting time to be a Blue Jays fan. However, baseball expert and host of Blue Jays today podcast Adam Peddle, believes that Toronto still has more work to do to catch the top teams. Peddle is not worried about the offense, but he doesn’t think that the Blue Jays pitching is at a World Series level right now.
“I think we are a contending club that could have an avenue. Do I expect it to be this year? I actually don’t expect it to be this year. I think our best window is still yet to come. I think next year, one more year of experience. Our rotation’s not gonna change. If anything it’s gonna get even better. I think that’s what I’m waiting for. Another year of this pitching staff. Next year is the year I’ll say, okay, we gotta have a legitimate shot.”
The teams ahead of the Blue Jays on Fangraphs’ rankings are the New York Mets, Houston Astros, New York Yankees, San Diego, and the team that Fangraphs believes has the best odds at winning the World Series (14.9%), the Atlanta Braves. Peddle disagrees. He told us that “Houston is the clear favourite.” The Astros won last year’s World Series, and have been to the World Series four times in the past six seasons.
Toronto’s season officially begins March 30th versus the St. Louis Cardinals.
