The ‘Greener Homes London’ is a program designed to provide citizens with guidance so they can reduce their environmental impact at their homes. Out of many other programs that can be explored throughout London Environmental Network’s website, ‘Greener Homes London’ focus at sustainable and affordable ways to implement eco-friendly technologies at homes, improving energy efficiency.
Londoners are encouraged to join any of the financial incentives offered by LEN. A list of retrofit projects and renovations is available on their website for those interested in a more sustainable house. According to program manager Jamie Dardarian, the programs are great because they’re helping to reduce the barrier of cost for implementing new technologies and renovations.
‘’With the government funds available, it’s more feasible for Londoners to install these new technologies.‘’
She also promoted the ‘‘Interest Free Loan’’ program, from natural resources Canada.
‘’With this program, homeowners have the opportunity to not only get the grants for their installations, but they can also finance the retrofits interest rate, which truly does remove the burden of implementation of the cost associated with it.’’
‘’People can pay it back over a 10-year period with no interest, so it’s really hard to argue with it.’’
She explained LEN also offers educational base resources, those being casual ways for folks to engage or participate with sustainable movements or engage in activities about environment in London.
‘’We also assist people to get access to these grant programs, specifically the home efficiency rebate plus program and the Canada Greener Homes program. We’ve been operating these for 2 years now and this year we’ve done more than 300-hundred home energy assessments with 250 active plants.’’
Jamie says engagement with the community has been key, with media posts, web and print advertisement playing an important role in their development.
‘’We’ve really seen word of mouth growth over the past year. A lot of people know about it now. It’s really exciting to see more and more Londoners care about what they’re doing. We have conversations with people where they talk not only about lowering their heating bills, but also making sure they’re leaving a better world for their kids’’.
