Its everyone favorite October holiday! Many will be seen dressed up as a specific characters on the streets of the city.
However, international students find themselves immersed in a cultural celebrations.
“I can’t go to the Halloween as I just arrived and I don’t know anything about the culture. I am willing to blend into the culture if got a chance,” says a Fanshawe student, Vrushal Shah.
Some students eagerly embrace the festivities, enjoying the chance to dress up in creative costumes. Yet, for some the customs associated with Halloween might seem unfamiliar and even somewhat perplexing
Elaine Pasion, Fanshawe student from Philippines says, “in our village we do not use to celebrate Halloween like this, but here in Canada they celebrate it in mass which is exciting.”
“I have not been to any parties but will see. Although I have decorated my house with pumpkins and ghosts,” Pasion added.
As the Halloween season approaches, international students continue to find their place within the uniquely Western festivities.
