With some new flights recently being announced to Cancun and Orlando, London’s International Airport is expanding their flights at the end of 2023 with an addition to Caococo, Cuba.
All flights will be run by Sunwing Airlines and are set to begin on December 11th. The four destinations are Cancun, Mexico; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; and Caococo and Veradero, Cuba.
Air Transat started offering non-stop winter flights to Londoners in November of 2023, extending their season through a longer period.
‘’We’ve grown at about 60% passenger volume in 2023 over 2022. We’ve had Air Transat come in this year and double their winter capacity from London. So, they started actually at the beginning of November and are going to go until the end of April. So quite a bit longer season than they’ve traditionally done here in London,’’ says Scott McFadzean, CEO of the London’s International Airport.
The flight to Caococo comes in addition to the Veradero flight, already included in last year’s routes. ‘’Air Transat had good success with both Cancun and Punta Cana. So those are what they are offering. And of course, you can get the flights, but they also offer great package deals. So, you can get your hotel and all-inclusive resorts all included in the package with the flight. It’s pretty economical, especially when you compare that to some of the parking rates that you have to pay at some of the larger airports.’’
McFadzean says these flights are great for those who are looking for quick and non- stop traveling, being an excellent option to keep it simple when going through security. ‘’We are part of the community and we want everyone in London to use the airport because that is the best way to get additional flights is to show airlines that our community is very interested in traveling from the airport. And the more demand they see from our community, the more they’re going to offer that supply of flights and new destinations.’’
‘’We like to call ourselves the easy and comfortable airport. We’ve got large parking, affordable parking, just steps away from the terminal. And then coming in, it’s a smaller airport and you don’t deal with the chaos and stress of dealing with one of the larger hubs like, you know, Toronto or Detroit.’’
