The Fred Pattison 2023 award winner Terrance Wu holds his recital today at Western University. Terrance is a first-year master’s student at Western University.
“I started to learn piano when I was seven years old, and I also learned Violin when I was about eleven years old.” Says Terrance Wu.
The Fred Pattison Piano Award is annually awarded to first–, second-, third- — and fourth-year full-time students enrolled in the music program. The award winner gets a cash prize as well as a chance to perform in the next academic year.
“My biggest supporter in this entire journey has been my parents. I remember every day my parents used to drop me to classes and later pick me up. Also, all the teachers have been my inspiration whether it was during learning at university or other masterclasses. Everyone has played a very crucial part in my journey.” Wu said.
All the closest friends and family members attended the recital to support Terrance and witness his final award-winning performance.
“I was watching Terrance play. He is very calm and focused. He is so confident and his fingers I don’t know how they move so fast. I think the romantic stuff and classics were my favourite part of the performance.” Mija is an attendee.
“The early-on performances I gave at in start of my career have helped me to boost up my confidence level. I had to travel to various places for competitions and classes.” Wu said.
The recital started at 8 pm at Van Kuster Hall and finished around 9 pm. It was a small, intimidating event with around 15 people.
“In future, I would love to do more recitals and teach a little bit. But, performing recitals is my favourite part.” Wu said.
The final round of the Fred Pattison 2024 Award will take place tomorrow at Western University followed by a masterclass.
