The Special Olympics Canada winter games that started on Tuesday had 64 athletes from the London
area embarking to Calgary to compete.
Player for the London Blazers floor hockey team, Chris Lauzon says it’s been a long journey for him to get to where he is now.
‘’It’s been a 20-year journey to to get to these National games and help London’s first hockey team ever to make it. It’s been so far a great experience.’’
Lauzon says the preparation for these games started back in October 2023, with the team training every Monday night. The games in Calgary count with more than 1200 people, including athletes, coaching staff and managers.
‘’Our first game, we played against BC and Manitoba, and we got to talk to some of the athletes after the games and hang out with them. We got to know them and to see how they run their special Olympics.’’
The Floor Hockey team still has a game today, playing this afternoon. On Saturday, they have the semi-final game, and the possible final at night.
‘’We have a good coaching staff that helped us lead the way here, and just comes whatever comes later today. And tomorrow, we leave everything on the floor.’’
